LA Dream Center Team Recap

// July 9th, 2008 // No Comments »

A total of 13 College and 20-Somethings were honored to represent HPC this year while serving at the LA Dream Center, led by Pastor Matthew Barnett. We participated in dozens of street outreaches including lunch giveaways to homeless youth, food distribution to low income families in the inner cities, street clean-up, ministry to the homeless on Skid Row, street evangelism on Hollywood Blvd, and outreaches to children and families in low income housing districts. In all the DC outreaches our team personally reached over 2000 people in the Greater Los Angeles Area with the love of Jesus! This was an awesome experience and I am proud to say that our entire team was challenged, stretched and inspired through this opportunity!

Hi,

I love you all so much. I miss you Phill and Heather!!

We are having a great time. Please let everyone know. The team is healthy and there is such unity. It has been a dream team.

Today we drove for 30 min then hiked up a mountain for an hour. Crossed 3 rivers and went to see patients in a school with no electricity any where around. We saw over one hundred patients while there. Then it RAINED. We went back down the mountain in the pouring rain. What an experience!!!! Can’t wait to show you the pictures.

We will be in Cacao tomorrow, so we will pass through La Ceiba. So, please send me text message tonight or in am because I will be able to get them.

Love you,
Cheri

HPSM in Swaziland 2008

The HPSM mission trip to Swaziland was an incredible experience. This trip held a lot of “firsts” for me…it was my first mission trip, my first time to Africa, my first 20 hour flight, and my first visit to a Children’s Cup Care Point. We had the honor of serving at the first few HPC Swazi outreaches. It was so awesome to see bright red Serve shirts against the backdrop of a Swazi soccer field as we handed out Cokes and told people about the church launch. I will never forget singing songs with the kids at the care points and just loving on them as much as I could. God really spoke to me before I left about giving everything I had to the people I would meet, and I did. I fell into bed exhausted but God was faithful and renewed my strength daily, giving me more so I could give more.

I will always remember how natural it was to serve there. The scenery was different and the people were different but we all shared the same heart. There really is HPC DNA half way around the world in Swaziland! It was incredible to be a part of the first official Sunday service! We were full to capacity on the first day…sounds like HPC right! What a blessing to hear Pastor Ben share the love of Jesus with over 200 people.

I am so thankful for Michelle, Tiffany and all of the HPSM staff for preparing us to serve. I have learned so much through the internship. I believe I can speak for the Swazi Team when I say that all of the high standards, all of the sacrifice, all of the sweat and tears shed during the past nine months prepared us to serve with a right heart and a willing spirit. I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to participate in a program like HPSM and sit under the direction of the HPC staff. The trip to Africa was such an incredible blessing to me that I returned to Baton Rouge with a burning desire to change the world by serving One.

HPC in India 2008

// June 13th, 2008 // No Comments »

It’s hard to try to summarize everything I experienced in India, but I’d have to say that II Corinthians 12:9 says it best: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” This is what stands out to me when I think about our trip to India. As many of you might know, after only a few days in India our group started to get miserably sick, myself included. I’m not going to go into detail, but lets just say it was no fun for anyone in our group. Although it wasn’t the most enjoyable experience I’ve ever had, I’m glad it happened. Through our physical weakness, I saw God’s grace and power move in our lives. I saw how He was able to use each of us despite the fact that we were still sick and had little energy. He gave us the strength and energy we needed as each one of us stood in front of crowds of people and proclaimed His name, whether through a word or through worship. Through our weakness, I saw the power of God move and I saw Him touch the hearts of a young generation. It was truly amazing!!
